It’s about exercising our natural ability to be attentive and present, which has a positive impact on our physical, mental and emotional state, improves the quality of our relationships and makes us more focused and effective at work.

The ability to be conscious of the moment is part of human nature, i.e. something we are all born with.
But this ability of presence is like a muscle that has not been used very much: it is thin and weak. And it is weak because we are not trained to use it. Therefore, the few times we spontaneously use this muscle and are present here and now, it happens in a random and unconscious way, and not as part of a conscious, mental process or exercise.

Mindfulness training is therefore about becoming aware of and training the “attention muscle” so that we can use it more often in everyday life – both at home and at work. It is about how we can learn to use our conscious presence to improve our health and quality of life, and to discover new opportunities to improve the relationships with ourselves and others, and to grow as a human beings.

..

Scientific investigations of Tibetan monks’ brain activity during mindfulness meditation.
Center for Investigating Healthy Minds, The University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, 2015

What we already know and are increasingly able to explain scientifically, is that exercising the ability to “visit” the moment in a conscious way has many positive and vitalizing effects, both on the body, mind and soul.
